Elixir 4 was one that first drew my eye to Apothecary Elixir. Butter pecan cheesecake sounds so divine, I’m a little saddened I haven’t found a good juice version before. AECo knocked this one out of the park so no further searching is necessary.

Butter pecan is one of those flavors that kind of gets around. You can find it in anything from candles to e-liquid. The couple I tried previously lacked the cheesecake element and were incredibly buttery. AECo’s butter pecan is just as it should be. The butter part isn’t the star and neither is the pecan. Instead they are the harmonious pair they were always meant to be, and they’re the stars here. Although I suppose the caramel is worthy of stardom too. I come from the RY4 days and when caramel might as well have meant custard. It was used heavy handedly and rarely really well. The caramel here tastes just like a caramel drizzle on top. It’s not heavy like a caramel chew or dark tasting. The caramel shows up after the exhale and just sort of lingers on my tongue and it’s really just an exceptional finish. Oddly enough the cheesecake part of Elixir 4 is the most mellow. It tastes more like a New York style cheesecake in that it’s more smooth and creamy. It’s mellow but there and just works perfectly. The butter pecan and caramel are the real stars and the cheesecake doesn’t take anything away from them.

I’ve found this is be very enjoyable for a dessert flavor. It has a buttery rich flavor that never becomes heavy or cloying as there is a harmonious balance between the flavors.

I have heard nothing but great things about the flavors coming out of Apothecary. I am happy to report that my first experience with their juice was nothing, if not pleasant. Elixir 04 is supposed to be a pecan caramel cheesecake, and that is exactly what it tastes like. Since I am a big fan of pecan pies (I make a mean one, using only roasted, native pecans. Comanche pecans are bigger, but aren't nearly as sweet as the smaller, native pecans), and cheesecakes. The evil geniuses at Apothecary have brought these two flavors together.

I have cleaned and rewicked the same coils I used for my last attempt at getting decent flavor from GSV's Creme Brulee. That didn't go so well, to be sure. After letting the wicks soak for 15 minutes, I gave Elixir 04 a try. The results were amazing. The inhale tastes mostly like a pecan pie filling. While, the exhale gives you a pecan praline flavor, mixed with cheesecake. It is a creamy, heavenly flavor that fans of pastry juices will most certainly enjoy. I have let this steep for almost two weeks....but, not quite. I am thinking that the cheesecake will come forward, a little more with time. But, I had lost patience, and just had to try it. I am glad I did. I will certainly buy from them, again.

Edit: after a month steeping time, this stuff is mindblowing. Bumping it up to 5, because I can't give it a 6! My new ADV.

I've been quite happy with my experiences with Apothecary Elixirs creations lately, and this one is no exception. I get a buttery sweet pecan on the inhale, it only gets stronger on the exhale and is then joined by a sweet touch of caramel.

The cheesecake is fairly light and more of a creamy note as a base for the stronger flavors to layer on top of. I like that just fine personally, as too much cheesecake can make a juice a little too funky sometimes. Almost sour. This juice bypasses that problem with a light touch. I'd be a little curious what it tastes like with a stronger cheesecake base, but I'd likely find myself enjoying it less.

At 35-40 watts I taste mostly a medium-heaviness butter pecan sauce, warm caramel and a faint cheesecake underneath. At higher wattages I even get a hint of maple. Very tasty!
