Elixir 4 was one that first drew my eye to Apothecary Elixir. Butter pecan cheesecake sounds so divine, I’m a little saddened I haven’t found a good juice version before. AECo knocked this one out of the park so no further searching is necessary.

Butter pecan is one of those flavors that kind of gets around. You can find it in anything from candles to e-liquid. The couple I tried previously lacked the cheesecake element and were incredibly buttery. AECo’s butter pecan is just as it should be. The butter part isn’t the star and neither is the pecan. Instead they are the harmonious pair they were always meant to be, and they’re the stars here. Although I suppose the caramel is worthy of stardom too. I come from the RY4 days and when caramel might as well have meant custard. It was used heavy handedly and rarely really well. The caramel here tastes just like a caramel drizzle on top. It’s not heavy like a caramel chew or dark tasting. The caramel shows up after the exhale and just sort of lingers on my tongue and it’s really just an exceptional finish. Oddly enough the cheesecake part of Elixir 4 is the most mellow. It tastes more like a New York style cheesecake in that it’s more smooth and creamy. It’s mellow but there and just works perfectly. The butter pecan and caramel are the real stars and the cheesecake doesn’t take anything away from them.

I’ve found this is be very enjoyable for a dessert flavor. It has a buttery rich flavor that never becomes heavy or cloying as there is a harmonious balance between the flavors.

I have heard nothing but great things about the flavors coming out of Apothecary. I am happy to report that my first experience with their juice was nothing, if not pleasant. Elixir 04 is supposed to be a pecan caramel cheesecake, and that is exactly what it tastes like. Since I am a big fan of pecan pies (I make a mean one, using only roasted, native pecans. Comanche pecans are bigger, but aren't nearly as sweet as the smaller, native pecans), and cheesecakes. The evil geniuses at Apothecary have brought these two flavors together.

I have cleaned and rewicked the same coils I used for my last attempt at getting decent flavor from GSV's Creme Brulee. That didn't go so well, to be sure. After letting the wicks soak for 15 minutes, I gave Elixir 04 a try. The results were amazing. The inhale tastes mostly like a pecan pie filling. While, the exhale gives you a pecan praline flavor, mixed with cheesecake. It is a creamy, heavenly flavor that fans of pastry juices will most certainly enjoy. I have let this steep for almost two weeks....but, not quite. I am thinking that the cheesecake will come forward, a little more with time. But, I had lost patience, and just had to try it. I am glad I did. I will certainly buy from them, again.

Edit: after a month steeping time, this stuff is mindblowing. Bumping it up to 5, because I can't give it a 6! My new ADV.

Elixir 04 is one smooth and delicious dessert vape. There's a lot going on in here that could easily go wrong, but it doesn't. All the promised elements are present and everything works so well together to create a masterful experience. The butter pecan and caramel are the more prominent flavors while a dense and creamy cheesecake provides a solid backbone to carry them. This juice definitely changes up a fair amount going from fresh to steeped. Out of the gate it tasted like straight up butter pecan ice cream drizzled with caramel. The pecan was potent and earthy and the creaminess was much more akin to ice cream. After a bit of a steep, the pecan has toned down a notch and the creaminess has become much more full and dense. The caramel also shines a bit more on the exhale and I do get a bit of saltiness along with it. I honestly can't make up my mind which I like better. It's excellent both fresh and steeped, albeit a fairly different experience each way. The description provided next is my experience with Elixir 04 post steep. On the inhale I am struck with a rich butter pecan. It's nutty and slightly earthy with a deep buttery quality. There is a slightly sweet and dark caramelization that presents itself on the very backend and crossover. The exhale rolls over with a softer nuttiness combining with caramel and is backed by a fairly dense cheesecake. The cheesecake has more presence as mouthfeel than it does flavor. It provides a rich creaminess for the other flavors to ride atop. Caramel takes top note to carry the exhale out and there is an honest to goodness touch of salt that hits the tip of my tongue. I'm left with the taste of buttery caramel and pleasant nuttiness.

Overall, Elixir 04 is a knockout of a dessert juice. It's rich but not overly so and it's more nutty and dark than it is sweet. I expected it to be too sweet and rich, but I'm pleasantly surprised that it's not. It's very intricate and complex with little nuances that take it to a new level. This isn't a juice I could vape all day, but I also don't find myself in any particular hurry to switch it up. It's an amazing dessert and it's surprisingly easy on coils to boot. Apothecary made a gem with Elixir 04!
